ABOUT MY TEACHING:
I have been teaching flute for more than thirty years, which gives me a wealth of experience to share.
I get to know my students well in our work together, and enjoy mentoring them, helping them hone their skills and grow in musical understanding. I am able to analyze tonal problems and help the student find a way to produce a big, beautiful sound.
In the lessons I try to balance leading the student in a very detailed way (for example, isolating technical problems in the music and working them out, teaching nuances of phrasing and precise ornamentation) with supporting his or her own creative talent by accompanying the student on the piano, and encouraging expressiveness.
I give a lot of thought to choosing repertoire for each student, wanting the music to provide challenges for growth in specific areas and also to be interesting and inspiring.
My students improve rapidly with the one-on-one work that the private lesson provides. They are generally quite successful in meeting their competitive goals.
